Extenders work by handshaking with another wireless device through a secured connection usually. Then broadcasts to extend the wireless service further. This adds a small amount of latency in all extenders I have seen.
Its best to run a wired connection to where ever the weak signal is when possible and add an additional Access Point to minimize latency.
