corrupted window files and how to repair them
    « on: June 24, 2017, 08:36:22 AM »
I have been having problems with my desktop icons rearranging themselves after ever reboot, just recently I discovered data files that I had deleted restored to their previous location. Something is going on that I don't understand. So via an article online by MS I ran system file checker and got this result "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log %WinDir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log."
Can someone help me figure out how to do this. I am not very skilled when it comes to working with command prompts.

    Thanks

I did use the sfc/scannow and that's how I did find out the corrupted files that couldn't be repaired . I did find a recovery disk that I made when I got the pc 3 years ago. I am going to see if I can figure out how to "boot from a disk"

      Thanks

Ok after reading the instructions, Im having a problem booting from the recovery disk. I did hit F12 and it pulled up some kind of screen with various menus but none of them looked familiar. I didn't see anything that said repair windows as the instructions online said. Can I get some assistance in figuring this out please.
        Thanks

What i8s the name of your computer and model?
On some, the F12 key brongs up an alternative boot menu.
You selct the DVD.CD rom drive. Then wait a bit and hit any key.

after some more research i was able to get the pc to boot from the recovery disk and I ran the repair option, but it did not find any problems to be corrected which is confusing since the sfc/scannow did find errors. Any other thoughts?

            Thanks

            Sorry about the typographical errors.
At this point, you can run the SFC again and note what errors, if any, are reported.

I know I'm late to this party (for those that know me, that comes as no surprise), but I had this problem a couple years ago, and it was very hard for me to find the fix. But this is a great trick to fix corrupted Windows 7 or 8 system files. So, for future viewers, I'd like to leave the following gift:

You must be connected to the Internet, however. From administrator-level command prompt, type:

                  dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
