lost IDE channel
« on: December 07, 2005, 04:39:24 PM »
I was burning some MP3s using XP
my CD/RW works fine
but not today!!!

windows froze up .

I restarted my PC and lost the CD/RW and the DVD ROM/RW(I have 2 drives installed)
icons in MY COMPUTER.

The drives were on IDE 2 on a new cable.

I have tried every thing to no avail.

new cable..Nada!!!

so I connected the DVD drive to the IDE 1 cable with my 20 GB DRIVE (I disconnected the 80gb HDD)
and I can watch DVDS and CD MOVIES and listen to audio and mp3 DISKS.

THIS IS ONLY A TEMPORY MEASURE!!!

Any ideas or will I have to buy a new motherboard?

SPECS:

AMD SEMPRON 2600 CPU
ASUS A7S8X-MX MOTHERBOARD
384 MB RAM  DDR400
SMBIOS VERSION 2.3
20 GB HDD
80GB HDD(DATA ONLY)
CD/RW
DVD ROM/CDRW

PLEASE HELP!!
