Second Router
« on: September 12, 2017, 12:10:04 AM »
I ran a cat5 about 75-100 feet from my Primary Router/Modem to get a stronger signal to my patio and garage which works great. Problem is it creates a new network name and gives me problems with file sharing. My network printer only works if your connected to the second network. Any tablet or phone can't even see it on the Primary Network. Is there a way  to set up the second wifi Router with the same Network name?  Am I just doing something wrong?

Thanks
John

You want one network. Here are general rules.
The recommendation for two routers is:
Do NOT use the WAN input into the second router.
This means you only get three ports left.
First router must use DHCP. Second must not.
https://www.computerhope.com/jargon/d/dhcp.htm
Second router must have a higher IP in the same range.
if first is 198.168.0.1 then make
second as 198.168.0.2

There are other possibilities.
  198.168.1.1   #1
  198.168.1.2   #2

The above recommendations  keep everything under control of the first router.
Does that help?  ;)
