    Missing files
    « on: December 21, 2017, 05:19:16 AM »
I copied approximately 420GB worth of pictures from my computer to an external hard drive. These pic are attached to an Adobe Lightroom Catalog. I could see the pictures in the catalog but couldn't find the physical folder, subfolders or files on the hard drive itself. I decided to copy the whole file again. I never received a message saying that the file are already existed or an option to overwrite. After copying them over again, I still couldn't find my images but noticed from the file properties that the file doubled in size. I later discovered the folders were hidden, I unhid the folders but I am only seeing one copy of each of the images. Where can the other folders of images be? How do I get rid of the 2nd copy?

I'd try looking at it with Windirstat, it will show you where the space is taken and possibly recover it

Thank you. This is really helpful. I don't know how to rectify the problem but this shows a better example of my problem. In the attachment, you can see that top folder shows 848GB. The folder beneath shows 424GB where you have the ability to see what subfolders are in that. This is the original folder where I copied the 424GB from the computer to the hard drive. It's when I copied them the second time it doubled the instead of overwriting. How do I get rid of the additional 424GB?

A full screenshot would help us to advise what to get rid of to regain space...
Expand the folders if you can as well by clikin the + mark on the left...

I expanded one of the folders because that's all would fit on the screen. All of the content is the subfolders looks the same as the whole drive is nothing but pictures and video files. No files to be duplicate. Not sure why my screenshoots looks so bad this time. I had to do some  serious reduction on size.

The "Pictures" folder that is displayed within G:\Pictures in your first screenshot is using precisely 424GB and is exactly half of the space of the G:\Pictures folder.

I suspect you copied the Pictures folder and then pasted the folder itself inside your existing pictures folder, copying it to a new G:\Pictures\Pictures folder rather than into G:\Pictures

        Agreed...

Before deleting the subfolder make sure all contents in the main folder are intact.

Thank all of you so much for your help. It is exactly like you said, I created an additional folder when I copied the files the second time. I have checked to make sure that I have all the files I need in the original folder and will delete the folder with the duplicates.
