In regards to soybean about google gmail accounts, they require you activate them with a valid confirmed telephone number. If you want a short use e-mail and don't want a real confirmed phone number associated with the account then this is a problem.
E-mail that I have used for alias gaming accounts to friend my alias accounts to my main to control like 5 different accounts for the same game was thru Juno which still exists and offers free e-mail. *However their password strength on the e-mail do not allow complex passwords, so they have to be something simple like black1973stang or any other letter number combination. None of the !@#$%^&*() etc are valid characters to Juno's authentication server, so its not a very secure email service given your constrained to a lesser pool of alpha numeric combinations with the maximum password length, however you don't need to confirm a real phone number against it and that's why I use Juno for my alias accounts because its quick to set up and use bogus names and addresses and no phone number confirmation required.
