Lost a desktop icon

How to retrieve a desktop icon in Windows 10 ? 

It is  not an icon that's listed in all my programs (or do you call them sites?) that pop up on my screen
when I to to the START button.

It's an icon for a folder that i had created.

It had been on my desktop for a long time, but suddenly it vanished.

Many thanks, particularly as I am often confused by computer navigation.

Here is the easiest way:
Open Windows Explorer and Right Click on the Folder in question
while holding down the right mouse button, drag the folder to the Desktop
release the right mouse button
click on "COPY HERE"
