Firefox keeps opening up random sites in new tabs randomly
« on: October 15, 2018, 07:43:23 PM »
Back with the old XP.

So, i noticed lately that when I was using FireFox, it kept opening up new windows and tabs. At first it did one or 2 in a few hours for the first couple days, ignored it. Third day, it went absoute CRAZY. 5 times in a half hour, no matter which site i was on. This site, my other tech sites, youtube videos, article sites, etc., when it was selective of sites i was on to do that, specifically Youtube and a tech site, maybe one more. And at random times. And any Youtube video, not just one, and not a paticular channel either.

However, when i use Chrome, it dosen't do that. I just get to browse without that.

The sites paticularly are hapzop.com, some site called ay9244.com, and another site called superstreetbike.com also. And it just did it again when checking FireFox history to see the sites. Right now im using Chrome and it isn't doing it.

Please help, as this is getting super annoying!

Just wondering: uninstalling/reinstalling firefox does not help?

If not, then you might have some kind of issue with your computer that superdave or someone else can help you with over here. Good Luck

Hello and welcome to Computer Hope Forum. My name is Dave. I will be helping you out with your particular problem on your computer.

1. I will be working on your Malware issues. This may or may not solve other issues you have with your machine.
2. The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
3. If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to ask.
4. Please DO NOT run any other tools or scans while I am helping you.
5. It is important that you reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
6. Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.
7. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.

If you can't access the internet with your infected computer you will have to download and transfer any programs to the computer you're using now and transfer them to the infected computer with a CD-RW or a USB storage device. I prefer a CD because a storage device can get infected. If you use a storage device hold the shift key down while inserting the USB storage device for about 10 secs. You will also have to transfer the logs you receive back to the good computer using the same method until we can get the computer back on-line.

Actually, ADWCleaner will not work with Windows XP. Same with MalwareBytes. Security Check will.

In case this is not known, yes, i still use windows xp.
Also, now it is more frequent.
And, i just had an issue with Chrome with disorted text on this same page. Reloads made it worse.
And on top of that, my internet is wayyy slowed down in firefox.
And, whenever i try and download a file in firefox it download as a .PART file and not what it should actually download as.
And, problems with Chrome and disorted or missing text in small amounts in this website.

Please note: my hard drive in this laptop asks me to defrag it again immediatly after its already been defragged, it also becomes fragmented quickly, which isnt new. Its happened pretty much in the past 5 years, so don't be alarmed. Ima defrag it soon, anyways. And i am on the experimental Java 8 for XP.

MBAM works on my version of XP but AdwCleaner will no longer work on XP.
I'm also running XP but it's becoming harder to keep it operating.
The defragging problem could indicate there could be a problem with hard drive. Make sure you back-up of your important data just in case everything goes South. I'm still using FF and Chrome with very little problems

ESET Online Scanner
Note : If you use Internet Explorer to get the ESET Online Scanner, you won't have to download, nor install the tool, as everything will be ran in a contextual (pop-up) window of Internet Explorer. However, for every other browsers, you will have to download and install ESET Online Scanner. In this set of instruction, I'll use Google Chrome to download it and run it (since a lot of people will do it), however, except for the download and installation procedure, the same instructions applies if you use Internet Explorer. Please note that two or three prompts will appear if you use Internet Explorer asking you to reload the page, authorize the application, execute it, etc. Accept all of them in order to run ESET Online Scanner.

    Download and execute ESET OnlineScan (on this window, click on ESET Smart Installer to trigger the download). People accessing this URL via Internet Explorer will start the integration process of ESET Online Scanner in their browser;
    Once the installation is done (it requires Admin Rights), check the following settings (two of them are under Advanced Settings, click on it to display them) :

        Enable detection of potentially unwanted applications;
        Scan archives;
        Scan for potentially unsafe applications;
        Optional : If you want to scan more drives, click on Change... and select the drives you want to include in the scan;

    After you're done checking these options, click on Start and ESET Online Scanner will download it's virus signature database before starting the scan;

    Once done, the scan will start automatically. Detections will appear at the bottom of the window. ESET Online Scanner can have an extremely long scan time that can last between 2 or 3 hours. So if you start the scan, do not interrupt it, let it complete until the end;

    After the scan is finished, a summary window will appear to give you the information about the scan. Then you'll have to the option to see what threads were found and to manage the threats that were quarantined;

    Click on List of found threats, it'll display every threat identified during that scan, their type and what action was taken against them. Click on Copy to clipboard to copy these results on our clipboard and post them in your next reply;

    Once you're done, click on the Back button;
    Check both checkboxes at the bottom: Uninstall application on close and Delete quarantined files before clicking on the Finish button;

I am currently running the scanner.... so the scanner is still running, sorry about that i can't post the threats in this post because i am running the scanner

Anyways, when i ran the scanner i had to stop it twice because i was having trouble with it downloading its virus siganture database..... now the scan is running

And when it started running i had a couple Firefox windows open up randomly when i was using Chrome.... then Chrome gave me trouble with freezing right when that happened.... i was in google docs. When the second FireFox window appeared randomly i closed it and Chrome closed after a few seconds of being frozen....

When the scan started the computer also became laggy and somewhat unresponsive for a minute....

C:/Documents and Settings/Corey92/Desktop/Old Firefox Data/{1ifv53vh.default/extensions/e9c99267-487c-4fcc-9585-4a8eo8d4323d.xpi JS/Adware.Chromex.BrainyZanyGames.A application

C:/Documents and Settings/All Users/Documents/Downloaded Installers/{9DE6EA82-B1F4-4156-9565-B38A1AA2D924/setup.msi    A variant of Win32/UwS.SlimDrivers.A application

Note: They are in quarintine, along with the ones above.
I think i may have just found what was causing it. Before this, i reinstalled Firefox just to let you know.

Click Start> Computer> right click the C Drive and choose Properties> enter
Click Disk Cleanup from there.

Click OK on the Disk Cleanup Screen.
Click Yes on the Confirmation screen.

This runs the Disk Cleanup utility along with other selections if you have chosen any. (if you had a lot System Restore points, you will see a significant change in the free space in C drive)
