Good call GX, what if the PS2 keyboard or mouse is faulty?

The PS/2 keyboard and mouse work 100% ok on another machine.

We're not having much success here :-?
Give Ewido a run while we tear our hair out for a short time.

      Hi again,

First, let me apologise for being short-sighted and stupid. To go back to your suggestion of looking in Add/Remove programs for updates. I hadn't noticed the checkbox at the top of the window to show/not show updates. I found the 2 updates that were being installed on the 17th December - the fateful day - and uninstalled them. Restarted computer and re - downloaded and installed them again. Re started computer with PS/2 keyboard and mouse..............Nothing. Same fault. It would seem that if  the fault was brought on by AVG corrupting the updates, then some other files - drivers ? have been affected.
Anyway, I'm shattered and I'm off to my bed now. Thank you for all the help so far and perhaps you'll come up with something tomorrow.
PS I'll run that Ewido tomorrow.
      Goodnight,
      Eddie
