I really like Macrium. Easy to use and pretty reliable. These are great if you have the backup capacity as an image is the existing system state of the entire disk. In other words, you can put a completely blank drive in and restore your PC back exactly as it was, programs, data, and all with an image restore.

Syncback free is amazing. I use the pro version at work and the free version at home
It’s simple by default, but you can dig into the advanced menus and nerd out, no bloat or ads included

I've recently been using Google Backup a lot at work, we chose it by default because we already had quite a lot of Google services and products, but there weren't any issues, it does the job just fine.

I use Macrium (free) on one computer and EaseUS ToDo (paid) on another. If meaning disk imaging (rather than file back-up), Windows 10's own disk imaging function works too. It shows up in the Control Panel as 'Back up and Restore (Windows 7)'. I've made disk images and successfully restored from them a good number of times with this.

I've given the built-in Windows 10 disk imaging tool a try based on your recommendation, and it's even simpler to use than Google Backup, thanks!

One inconvenience of using the function comes when you want to store more than one disk image on the same backup drive or partition.

The procedure calls a disk image 'WindowsImageBackup'. If you make a second image, the procedure will by default, overwrite the existing one with another disk image of the same name.

If you wanted to keep the existing image but still make another, it can be done by renaming the existing image. For instance, rename it to 'WindowsImageBackup-1/2/21' before starting to make a new image. The new image will again be called WindowsImageBackup but it won't overwrite the first one made. It's possible to store any number of images on the backup drive by doing this with each one saved.

There must always be one that is called plain 'WindowsImageBackup' because that's what the restore procedure will look for when restoring from a saved image. Just decide which image you want to restore from and remove the name change from it.

Good Luck when you go to restore those Win image backups...i had 3 out of 5 fail on restore...and gave up on it...and with Reflect and Easus ToDo available it's just silly to tempt fate IMHO.

Interesting to read that Patio. I use EaseUS and Reflect. However, I have quite confidently used thw Windows imaging for restoring a good number of times over the years with no issues. I do have a WindowsImageBackup sitting on the backup drive as an alternative ..silly as that is.  :)

Thanks. Strange how some things work for one but not for another. There's no rhyme nor reason for it sometimes but I know it happens. I once had a failure with Aomei Backupper. No trouble with the backup part but the image would not restore. I don't know why that happened but was glad of a WindowsImageBackup at the time. The trouble is that an image can appear to be good but you never really know for sure until it is used for restoration and that might be months later.

As said, no failures with Windows' image restoring here but if it did happen, there would be a Macrium or EaseUS image to use (depending on which computer it was needed for). Similarly, if there was a failure with either of those program's images when restoring, there would be a WindowsImageBackup available. Perhaps good not to rely on just one single way.
