Secure Erase Kingston Freeze Lock
« on: December 07, 2021, 11:34:06 PM »
Greetings!

I have a Kingston 240gb SSD that i am trying to secure erase using the Kingston software that is provided online. I have the drive set up as a slave and the software sees the drive as a slave drive. However when i try to secure erase it claims i need to pass a freeze lock. To do so i need to unplug the sata power connection and replug it in. Ive tried this multiple times and still i cannot get the program to allow me to secure erase. Am i doing something wrong?

The software states that if this does not work, i should look into some different sata drivers. I am using a gigabyte GA-H87M-D3H board with a i7-4770. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

I can't find any clear information on what the "Freeze Lock" state could mean.

You might try using a tool like parted Magic, that has an NBAN tool (based on DBAN) which provides a secure erase function.

I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

What im attempting to do is at this link.

Specifically the last page of this PDF. Unplugging and plugging in the secondary drive should unlock it. It does not sadly.

Hi
Did you remove all the partitions from the drive first as described in the instructions ?
In windows drive management you can check if the drive is locked.  If it is, you can unlock it with the right mouse click menu

hi Lisa.

Yes I have removed all the partitions. Im on the last step trying to unlock it. Under drive management there is no option to unlock it. There are options to create a simple volume, properties and help. That is all.
