If you are allowed on your work laptop to add any programs. Give the IT guys a hand either use the laptops built in diagnostics. HP and Dell have this as a windows tool.
Or install HDsentinel trial and check if the drive is healthy and not having communication errors.
If the above checks ok then perhaps a malware check.
