Need help with WIN 7 PRO

Most of the time the pc works as it should.  Except for the cd.  No sound and no way to choose cd that I have seen.   Any specific suggestions would be apprecieated.

When you click on My Computer can you see the CD drive?

I don't see anything listed under My Computer but IF I go into word it sees the two drives.  When  triedt troubleshooting, I saw the message that something had not been added.   I have no idea of how to get the Altec Lansing speakers plugged into the pc and asking for a driver?

Will it attempt to play a CD?

Sorry I have had to be absent from my pc.    The Cd "plays" but with many break up with odd noises.I am thinking it needs a cd replacement or a software correction.
