Internet Related -> Firewall
« on: August 18, 2004, 07:39:04 AM »
I am quite interested in what kind of Firewalls people use (Software) and the reason why they prefer that particulair Firewall.

I myself use Zone Alarm, I have yet to try another brand but I find Zone Alarm (Registered) to be very user friendly. The only downside of this program is that it tends to make certain full screen appliances crash when it asks if they are allowed to connect to the Internet for the first time.

Hi,

I use it. Dont have that problem. Never had it. Have full screen apps using for 1st time, all the time. Suggest you read the manual or online help to resolve your problem.

It does not always happen, but if it happens, it happens with games that refuse to alt + tab once Zone Alarm pops up a question balloon. It also happens to a friend of mine. Freelancer for example. Another fine product of Micro$oft.

Symantec

And why?

Zone Alarm works very good with Windows XP. Why would it not?

I wasn't quite interested in hardware firewalls, since these cannot be changed as easily as software ones.. I myself have a Q-tec router installed.

There's nothing wrong with the freeware version of Sygate.

I have installed Sygate Personal Firewall Pro and I must say I am very pleased with the results so far, it goes into a lot more detail than Zone Alarm, and thus, makes it easier to configure whilst it also seems more effective.

What would the differences between the Free edition and the Pro edition be?

NONSENSE!  ZoneAlarm (free) works perfectly with Win2k-SP4, WinXP-SP2, Win98SE.

Merlin is biased towards XP. Zone Alarm worked very good for XP, the only problem was that it crashed games when asking for permission. Sygate does not have that problem.
