WLANs
« on: August 18, 2004, 07:39:43 AM »
I was looking into buying a laptop for when I start university.  The University supplies a phoneline and broadband to every room, I was looking at getting a notebook that says it has a built in Built in Wireless LAN 802.11b 11Mbps.

Will I be able to use this in the University system?
Is this a lot slower than the traditional Internet dial up connection?
Even though it has a WLAN could I still use a phoneline for the Internet without having to buy a modem?

you may find that the wlan is encrypted by the uni..for teachers to  use only...the best way is to find a cyber cafe...or if you are going to the expense of a wlan laptop you will have to find the hotspots to use it.
