Should the PLATFORM read SERVER ASP instead of IE ?

Wouldn't be any harm in trying it, would there?  If it makes no difference or has a negative impact, you can immediately change it back.

Do you preview the pages in Firefox on your computer before you upload pages to the server?

Internet Explorer was fine, as expected.
Opera, a reliable browser IMO, failed to load more than the three large JPEGs.
I just d/led Firefox (*censored* format...) and I'm about to test... Firefox is a mess!
Mozilla... is just as bad.

I am having trouble even making sense of some of the code. Did you code this yourself? If not, what program did you use?

Before I answer, I would like to say that I have not had this problem before.

I just looked at the site while at work and I need to scroll across to see the whole page from edge to edge. Is that the same for you when you see my site?

It would appear that the image is not found rather than just not properly displaying properly...

Haven't you ditched FrontPage yet?  You are just experiencing the pain associated with using that so-called web designer.

Hackerweasel - those bits and bobs are conditional codes which are only understood (I believe) by IE.  This is an example of the horror of using a non-standards-compliant web design package, biased towards a non-standards-compliant browser.

Kelly, I see that you've "borrowed" a design layout from elsewhere.  If you compare the HTML with your FrontPage-generated HTML, you'll see a HUGE difference.  The new HTML is clean, clear and what's more it works on multiple browsers.

I repeat my earlier advice in another thread: get NVu and do your utmost to learn HTML.  Continually refer to the HTML 4.0 Reference and pretty soon you'll be designing in code (rather than WYSIWYG) and understanding how it all fits together.  That results in less pain in the long run, and much better web design.

If you can afford it and you plan on doing a lot of web design, it would be worth acquiring DreamWeaver.  If you'd rather have the best of both worlds (WYSIWYG and plain code) it's unbeatable.

Incidentally, the PLATFORM stuff is a red herring.  If you're not doing ASP scripting, you can leave this setting as it is.  For performance reasons, it's better to leave ASP parsing off, if you're not using it.

Oh, that's FrontPage? Odd, my mum uses FP and her code looks fairly clean, and it works on Opera and FF. (It's going to undergo a renovation - big changes for her and big $$$ for me. ) Her source isn't the best (why does FP insist on old JavaScript and old HTML??? ) but it doesn't have all that crappola on it. Curious... anyway, my advice is to keep FrontPage but only use it for the buttons it generates, which are excellent in design.

I went to a FrontPage Template site...came across that template and yadda yadda yadda you know the rest.

I really messed it up last night and I am going to attempt to fix it tonight with Nvu.

Is Nvu similar to FP without all the added trouble?

You may want to check your code tag by tag. I think the problem must be a bad closed tag. IE does not generate trouble because it prints the document by sections, but Firefox prints the entire document; due to parsing differences. Thhis does not mean one is better than the other, in fact, if you're a web developer you should try your html in as many browsers as possible to generate a clean code.

Personally I only use firefox as my browser and find myself double checking against IE to make sure the Microsoft boys can see the content correctly. If you are using FP then that may very well be your problem, I always code in plain text rather than any type of a code generator so I dont really have many issues unless I forget to close a tag or something stupid like that.

I would recommend downloading the following two browsers for testing:

Netscape
Opera

These are highly popular browsers and if it displays correctly in all four browsers (including FF and IE) then you'll have covered at least 80% of the web viewers, if not more.
