IP to IP
« on: April 25, 2006, 05:52:38 PM »
I was wondering how you can send a message to an IP address. I've read about IP 2 IP software that lets you do that, and that it is useful for campaigns and stuff like that.
Does anyone know any free software to do this or how to do this? (yes, I did check Google, I got a bunch of other stuff)
(I have a Windows ME computer with a network router)

If this is illegal, please tell me.

What kind of "campaign"?

Unsolicited email, instant messaging etc. is one of the biggest nuisances of the internet, and I will personally emasculate anyone here who tells you how to do it!

I am not going to send a campaign. No worries there, I was only describing the IP 2 IP thing. I would harm if the president even thought about sending "Re-Vote for Me!".

So what exactly do you want to do?  There are lots of different ways of connecting to IP addresses, and lots of different things you can do once connected, depending on the connection type, and the type of hardware at each end of the connection.

Hmm, mainly send messages to my friends.
You know how if you have usernames for a Windows XP Home Edition computer, you can send messages to those who are logged in by pressing ALT+CTRL+DEL and then clicking on users, then you create a message, and send it, and when they go to their user they see it? Something like that, except a connection through an IP address.

(I would never use this to solicit to people I don't know, because they would for sure BOMBARD me with replies. I wouldn't like that too much, and changing an IP address seems like it would take too much work in the first place. )

Okay.  So you're looking for a kind of instant messaging system?  Your obvious solution would be MSN messenger or something like that.  A much better alternative would be Jabber, but that will involve much learning on your part, especially if you want to run a Jabber server.

I you decide to go down the Jabber route, let me know and I will recommend the relevant software.  I've tried most of the free Jabber clients.  MANY of them are unstable.

May I ask what the whole

"Beware the
disembodied head"

is about?
It looks like Holly in Red Dwarf. (you know, with the whole disembodied thing)

Is there a way to change your IP addy?

I keep getting the *censored* windo pop up that is from "media pipe " and they say "my IP addy has been logged and I will continue to get this message until I apply for the movie service"

I was hoping that if I could change my IP this *censored* thing would leave me alone.

I am sorry im I "hijacked" this thread

I will make a new thread if you want?
