404 errors on my page
« on: August 20, 2006, 04:33:52 PM »
I am making another website, but the pages are having major problems!
Check it out:

I don't know why I am getting the page not found errors.

If anyone knows of any good, free, ad free, templates, please tell me.

Your content.html page appears to be missing.  Only someone with access to your server/control panel can really comment on that.

I recommend not using IFRAMEs, because you will run into major cross-browser compatibility issues.  You've made steps with PHP, so why not use include() instead?

Because I don't have the slightest idea what IFRAMES or include() are

I think I will make the template again, instead of using the downloaded one. (Oh goodness, legal issues)

Fire away!
Good (I'm suprised I remembered the question after watching Psycho and going ROFL at the "Shower Scene")

My website, if you didn't notice, comes from a template.
Could I take the images and layout of that template, and make it all from scratch on my own, without being sued?

(As in taking the same images, colors, and table layout?)

No.  I think you'll find that's the point of the copyright notice.  ;)

Actually, the chances of being sued are negligible, and I would take that site's ominous warnings of bots with a heavy pinch of salt.  Nevertheless, you should understand the point of copyright.  How would you feel if someone ripped off your website's design, after you'd spent weeks getting it just right?

Exactly.

What if I just took the layout, and the colors?
I could skip the pictures, and other buttons.

Aha, that's the $64,000,000 question.  The difference between inspiration and palgiarism is very subtle.  It is a question of degree, but it is impossible to give a black and white answer.  But see what I said above about the chances of being sued.  :)

Ok, thanks Rob

I found another template without a content file, and it works much better this way
