    If someone could explain to me how, on a wireless network w/o any encryption, you can 'see' the other computers on that network and access their information, I'd appreciate it. I DO know that you can tap into their Internet but don't get how they can get into the computer information unless they are sharing files/folders.

    If "File and Print Sharing" is turned on in the host machine anyone who is relatively skilled will be able to access all those files...

    With file and print sharing turned off, you'd next go to port scanning all the IP addresses on the local subnet.  You can find out quite a lot that way, especially from inadequately protected machines.
    Only able to visit the forums sporadically, sorry.
