no, not in safe mode. i know it is my video card, a compatiblity issue with my motherboard and CPU i think. which is why i am upgrading soon. but that wont be for atleast 22 school days, not counting weekends with this job program.

Why do you have 2 display adaptors listed in your device manager?

Device Manager doesn't show all devices installed. Neither does it show that Windows XP still remembers devices that have long been removed, that can cause conflicts.

        Do the following to show hidden/removed devices;

        • Right click My Computer
        • Properties
        • Advanced
        • Environment variables
        • System variables or User Variables (Depending on to whom you want to apply it to, one or all (system) users)
        • Click "new"

Now type exactly what I have written down here:

        Variable name: devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices
        Value: 1

        Click ok.

You may need to restart the PC.

Now open the device manager and go to View -> Display Hidden devices.

Make screenshots of your device manager and post them there again.

Everything that is opaque are drivers that are no longer in use, but Windows still sees them. Don't start removing them right away, though.

ok, erm, wow, i had no idea those where there... i will screen shot them and edit this post with links when i am done.

i decreased the quality as far as i can without making them un readable, dial up friendly.

oh, and i will run the mem test, even though i know there is nothing wrong with these kingston sticks

i ran mem test with both sticks in, it found two errors, then i got the IRQ_not_less_or_equal error message. so i tried it with one stick, got one error, same BSOD, same thing happened with the other stick. i think my motherboard is failing

It even happens outside of Windows?

Something must have gone wrong, I do not see any opaque entries; are you certain you have done exactly as I recommended?

However, if it even happens outside of Windows it is not related to any drivers; it is then hardware or BIOS related. Have you tried resetting your BIOS to the default settings and having it auto-assign IRQ's?

That may be true with some video cards, I guess, but it's not true for all video cards.  I have a GeForce4 Ti4200 (AGP) with two ports and two monitors attached to it and my Device Manager only shows one Display Adapter.  I have had a PCI video card installed in the same computer, along with the AGP card, and then Device Manager will show two display adaptors, representing the two cards.

yes, BIOS automatically assigns IRQ's. and yes, the second video card showing up is the second monitor output. and yes again, i did exactly as you said, no opaque entries.

edit: now some are appearing opaque, even though i restarted after doing this, they didnt show up like that, or some didnt even show up at all until after the last crash. i will upload another batch of pics..

i labled the hardware that i know of thats showing as transparent:

I see your motherboard has built-in video.  Did you disable it in the BIOS when you installed your AGP card?  I gather it would appear in Device Manager as "Real ...", not as ATI Radeon, so apparently, the built-in video is not a factor in your Device Manager showing two Display Adapters.  As I said in my previous post, I'm not entirely in agreement with the notion that you should see two display adapters listed under Display Adapters.  Perhaps this depends on the make of video card.
