Big Problem
« on: September 29, 2006, 09:35:32 AM »
Hi everyone.  I beg all of you to think of a solution to help solve my very stupid mistake.

My mistake:
I right clicked an exe programme, clicked "open with.." and pressed notepad.  And apparently, the checkbox for "open all similar programmes with this" was ticked.   And thus, all my exe programmes would all only be opened using notepad.  After some time, I managed to access mozilla through some links.  And when I right-clicked some exe programmes again, the "open with.." was not there.. :-[  Plz help me..

What I beg you to do:
Help me not make my programmes open with notepad.

Btw, I tried it out.  The problem is that I can't see the "open with..." for all my exe programs anymore.  >.<  I tried doing what they told me to.  It didn't work.

Here is a link from microsoft telling you about system restore. I'd like to tell you, but this computer can't do it so I might miss something in explaining it if I can't check it out... Hope that kinda made sense. I'm at work, on their computer.

This is what you have to do:

      • Start
      • Settings
      • Control Panel
      • Folder settings
      • File types
      • New
      • Type .exe
      • Advanced
      • Search for application in the list
      • Click ok
      • Click Apply

      That should fix it.

System restore might do it as well, but try this first.

The system restore can't work as the the prob with my com is that all the exe programmes are opened using notepad.  And system restore is a exe program.. :-[

And to raptor:  I can't find map and settings.

Just to repeat, my computer's a Sony-VIAO laptop and its Windows XP Professional.

      Is there another way??  :'(

I can't find map and settings.

It was freely translated; it's a folder with a red V through it.

      Folder settings it's called.
