Internet Explorer Won't Open Automatically
« on: October 04, 2006, 09:10:08 PM »
I have Windows XP and a dial-up Internet connection. When I connect to the Internet, Internet Explorer doesn't open automatically. I have to open it manually by clicking on the desktop IE icon. I had Windows 98SE on another computer that has since broken beyond repair, and each time I connected to the Internet, IE opened automatically and immediately. I have looked at Tools-Internet Options-Advanced Tab and I don't see an option for setting IE to open automatically upon connecting to the Internet. Does anyone know how I can correct this? Thanks for your replies.

If you open IE .... click on tools/Internet options/connections  make sure you have ticked..... dial whenever a network connection is not present. Then click apply and ok....... Now whenever you startup, click on the IE shortcut and it will dial up and your connected.

You can also go to the same place as dl65 recommends and choose "Always dial my default connection".

This actually might be a good thing...if you think about it.

I'd be careful with that, sometimes it acts up and goes into 'work in offline mode' and it'll show you cached pages and you'll spend a few minutes wondering why you can surf the Internet but not be dialed in.

      Man, I hate dial-up.  :P

Allowing IE to dial a connection is not safe, a rogue website can drop your connection and give IE a 'new' number to dial, usually at premium rates and you don't find out until you get your next phone bill. :o
