« on: October 10, 2006, 03:27:44 PM »
Hi,
I'm trying to figure out if I need a wireless DSL router or a wireless DSL router/modem to use a broadband connection i'm getting in my house next week on my laptop. What determines which one I need?
Thanks for any info!

Do you already have a modem?  If yes then you'll only need a router.  If you do not already have a modem it might be better to buy a modem/router combo.

The laptop I have has a built in modem and wlan, does this mean I just need a wireless router?
Thanks,

When did they start building DSL modems into laptops? Most likely he has a 56k modem and built in wireless card. A DSL modem and router will be necessary. A router alone won't cut it.

presuming you want wireless connection, get a wireless modem/router.
I would recommend a netgear, good price and nice and easy to setup.
