Do I need a wireless card for desktop?
« on: October 28, 2006, 01:10:33 PM »
I asked my LAN/ISP/CABLE provider about connecting a second desktop computer to my existing cable. I was told I would need a router, which they would gladly supply for $85.00. Ok. Now they tell me I will also need a wireless card, which again, they will gladly supply for $125.00.

My tech knowledge is very limited, but when I think of needing a "WIRELESS" card to connect a cable WIRE to my computer, I get an "ERROR" popup in my brain!

On top of all that, I don't even know how to find out if my new computer already has a wireless card. I am posting info from *EVEREST program in hopes someone can look at it and tell if I do or don't have a wireless card.

* A much appreciated gift from "FED" in the "Drivers" forum.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Joe -

You can get a reliable wireless router for between 40 and 50 bucks...
The machine you listed does not have a wireless card but you can plug directly into the router.
Then if you wanted to add a second machine that machine would need a wireless PCI card again around 50 bucks and you would be good to go.
