Overclocking, Is it necessary?
« on: November 07, 2006, 03:23:00 PM »
Well I was looking around at the Microsoft site, and I was reading about Vista and its System Requirements.

A Windows Vista Capable PC includes at least:

A modern processor (at least 800MHz1).
512 MB of system memory.
A graphics processor that is DirectX 9 capable.

Now Im Not Sure If my Computer Is DirectX 9 capable, But my question is there any way to upgrade my processor to 800mhz from 730mhz with out overclocking? Or should I just get a new tower anyways.

Also, I don't know if this will come to surprise but you can download Betas of Vista off there site, thats why I sorta wanna do this ;)

That is the minimum. You will need much more than that to tolerate it. A newer system is recommended if you feel the need. No need to overclock that machine, even if it is possible.

What do you specifically see as a reason to use Vista? I'm doing a study.

A difference of 70MHz isn't going to make much difference in terms of being able to run Vista, but like said don't expect good performance.

People are going to sucked in by the eye candy. I prefer functionality and efficiency.

I think a lot of people are going to be disapointed with Vista once they get over how "pretty" it looks. Its another move in the direction of MS having complete control of what can and cannot run on a machine.

Well One reason I wanted to test it was to see beyond the eye candy, and im not about to ditch my PIII yet besides like all microsoft products If you buy vista when it is available I can Guarantee It is going to be very Buggy. Just Like the Xbox, Win2k, and many other Microsoft things they rushed and where buggy.

IM probably going to be chastised for that last line  ;D
