XP wont recognize MTP device
« on: November 04, 2006, 04:16:59 PM »
My computer all of sudden wont reconize my Creative Zen Microphoto device.

When connected, XP reconizes it as a MTP device, then its says its correct name (zen microphoto). then the found new hardware screen pops up. When I try to install it, it says "The specified service does not exist as an installed service."

My computer will not reconize MTP devices. My brothers wont work either.

1.Under device manager, under portable devices, it correctly gives the name of my MP3 player, but it has a exclamtion mark next to it.

2. In the registry, under enum/permissions, the group everyone is already set to "read".

3. I have windows XP SP2 and its up to date.

4. My Mp3 player will work on my brothers computer as a plug and play device perfectly fine

Please help me, how do i get my computer to reconize MTP devices?

Here is a discussion on your problem and a reported Regedit which cured it.

Lots more info on various WWW sites
