How to transfer files from laptop without accessin
« on: November 07, 2006, 09:59:23 PM »
Long story short, my laptop has messed up drivers that prevent XP from loading up, and I need to access files on the hard drive. It won't get past the Windows screen in any mode (normal, safe modes, last good config, etc.).

I know it's a driver issue because the last time it started up, it went far enough to give me a popup - ''This driver has been blocked from loading.'' I believe it was for the osaio.sys driver, but I'm not completely positive.

In any case, it's not a hardware issue and my hard drive is still fine. I have the discs to fresh install XP again but I lose all my data, and I really need to copy them from the hard drive before I do that. What would be the best way to transfer files from my hard drive to whatever medium, given that I can't use Windows XP to access them? Thanks.

If you do a repair install of XP you will not lose your data...

Here

Follow the Instructions Carefully. I suggest printing them out...

Well for whatever reason the backup disc I created isn't working, so I can't access the repair install mode. What would be the best way to go now?

There is a cable available that will allow you to hook up that laptop HDD to a desktop machine where you can use GX1_Man's advice to retrieve that data...

2 1/2" HDD to IDE connector available at most computer stores.
