Hello Archie - welcome to the forums.

Have a look at this..  I suggest you print it so that it's readily available when you want to start the Recovery Console..

Good luck

Do you have a real WIndows CD as opposed to some sort of restore CD? If so, this should get you going:

Sounds like you have the OEM CD.Not an off the shelf after market
Windows CD like GX1_Man is talking about.

How are you "going to setup" exactly? What do you see on the screen? What does the CD say on it word for word?

If the instructions at below site are followed step by step
and you don't get the option to repair.......Your CD of
Windows is OEM and not an after market copy you,or
someone bought at the store. You need to list the
Manufacturers Brand Name and the model nmber to
get further assistance.

Example:Mine is -'Gateway Computer, Model E4200'

If a repair install did not help you have other issues...

Backup the data you need and do a format and clean install...

Remember you will need to re-install all drivers and programs you are currently running.

I have told myself- street1-Thou shalt Not Start an Acronis Poll.

Acronis and a secondary hard drive does make things easy though. :D

hi guys finally i can make my com work !!!! yippy !

thanks for all who helped me GX1_man , patio and street1 and others.

ok here is how i done it. firstly i type all this in the recovery console.

md tmp
copy c:\windows\system32\config\system c:\windows\tmp\system.bak
copy c:\windows\system32\config\software c:\windows\tmp\software.bak
copy c:\windows\system32\config\sam c:\windows\tmp\sam.bak
copy c:\windows\system32\config\security c:\windows\tmp\security.bak
copy c:\windows\system32\config\default c:\windows\tmp\default.bak

delete c:\windows\system32\config\system
delete c:\windows\system32\config\software
delete c:\windows\system32\config\sam
delete c:\windows\system32\config\security
delete c:\windows\system32\config\default

copy c:\windows\repair\system c:\windows\system32\config\system
copy c:\windows\repair\software c:\windows\system32\config\software
copy c:\windows\repair\sam c:\windows\system32\config\sam
copy c:\windows\repair\security c:\windows\system32\config\security
copy c:\windows\repair\default c:\windows\system32\config\default

then i found out then even with this i cant go to safe mode. But with this i can go to repair using windows CD. I did a repair finally i can use my com now.

However while i doing the repairing a few prompt pop out , something like .......... missing ...dll file .

so guys what should i do to make my com my stable , i just afraid without some dll file will cause my com to crash again.

You need to downlaod the SP2 file from Microsoft. Burn it to a CD and install it and your spyware and virus protection and THEN connect the cable to the internet. Not before.

No, not unless you choose to.

Boot with your legal XP CD and follow the install instructions onscreen. The format is done during this procedure. Once Windows is installed then you should be able to read your other drive(s). If you have followed this procedure then post back with any issues. If you have not followed this procedure, what have you done?

When instructed press F6 and insert the motherboard CD to load the SATA drivers. Without that Windows cannot load properly onto the drive.

What is the computer or motherboard make/model?
