That system shipped with an onboard network adapter, built onto the motherboard listed as an Integrated Intel 10/100 Ethernet Controller Driver (Intel 82562ET chip set). This will accept an Ethernet cable. Look carefully at the back of the machine.

Is that not what you see?

By the way it is definitely a Soundblaster Live 512 sound card.

if what ur saying is that there should be an onboard ethernet adapter (broadband internet cable input) it is not there, if it was a pci one my friend could havev taken it out, but there is not one built onto the motherboard.. i have rechecked and i know what those look like.. is it possible the service tag was wrong with ohs o o and zeros 00 ??

service tag= 5S0VB01 zeros or letter o's 5SoVBo1 they look exactly the same and i think they are zeros, regardless there is no onboard network adapter.. im like 99.9% positive i shouldn't need it anyway tho right?

i have reformatted and reinstall 98se i installed from burned cd chipset, video, audio, modem drivers from dell website
i had to use file from somewhere in os install files to update modem driver but is now working properly

device manager shows PCI Input Controller, PCI Multimedia Audio Device, PCI Network Controller as other devices under yellow ?.

u want the everest report? how can i post it? this is my first post sorry for trouble and thank you for helping me

sound seems so simple, feels so close.. atm no sound thru program/accessories/entertainment/cdplayer have not installed wmp9 yet

tho this seems to make sense since one of unknown devices is PCI Multimedia Audio Device..

ok if i go to device manager: 3 left.. PCI Input Controller, PCI Multimedia Audio Device, PCI Network Controller

i know multimedia audio dev is sound card right? so the sound driver from the dell site is R37379.exe

but when i go to properties of device manager to either reinstall driver or update driver and browse to that file it wont the OK button does not activate to be pressed

You don't need it, but I cannot believe it is not there.

The PCI network controller IS the onboard ethernet IF you have not installed the Netgear card.

WMP9 should not be needed if get the sounds. You should hear them when Windows restarts IF the driver is installed correctly.

To install ALL of these drivers you double click on the file you downloaded. Then you double click on it again in the destination directory it has chosen. Then you choose RUN from location, rather than the second option. Is this how you are doing it?

there was no onboard ethernet, nor is there #6, 7, 8 on that diagram which seems to be an onboard soundcard
i downloaded four driver files
chipset
video
audio
modem onto a cd then clean install win98 then double click these files on cd they unzipped and im pretty sure they auto installed cuz it restarted and i saw the chipset pieces named for that one, the video driver seems to work the pixels increased(better quality image) the modem is working properly but i still have those three unknown devices and no sound.. ??ok now i make everest report
