How do I make both of my hard drives act like one?
« on: November 27, 2006, 07:53:08 PM »
Hi all!  I recently installed a second hard drive into my computer. The second hard drive is from my older cpu and is about 40g. The first hard drive in my cpu is about 80g. Although not a problen, I accidently made the old 40g the master and the 80g the slave. I can view the folders on both drives. But here's my question......How do I get my cpu to search both drives one after the other when I try to run software installed on the slave drive. Or, in other words, how do I make both hard drives behave as one big hard drive? Please help! Any suggestions welcome! Thanks!

as far as i know you simply cannot "put them together". it is not a internal partition, it is a physical partition that seperates the 2 drives.

i am confused... the "search" tool has an option on it that searchs all available hard drives. so it does go from one to the next. why do u need to search for the software in order to run it??

please clarify. i am sorry if i did not understand.

Thanks Homer! U answered the main part of my question in your first paragraph! What I meant about running software after a search of both hard drives is, If a game is installed on the slave drive, do I need to transfer its files to the master drive in order to play it? Thanks for the quick response!

no u do not need to transfer any files. install a game onto your slave drive and you will see what i mean. ;)

BTW, any programs/games/etc. that you wish to install onto your slave drive; you will have to change the programs install directory to your slave drive. every program i have installed has its default install directory set to my master drive.

You can try using RAID. But you'll lose everything and have to start over. Plusw you'll have to buy a RAID card. (most likely)

RAID is not relevant to this question and will be confusing to the original poster.  ::)
