Can you help me i have gone wireless from My base computer to a laptop both xp home.
Using a zyxel prestige 660HW modem router, the laptop tells me that i am running an unsecured net work and i should configure protocol wep wpa,can someone tell me how i should do this.ps keep it simple
My base computer tells me the router is firewalled

Thanks for that did all the reading and set up the base unit with wep.
The problem now is the lap top when i set that up with wep it locks me out and i cant get on the  internet
i then have to system restore the laptop. I have tried different settings to no avail i must have restored the laptop 100 times over the past few days
The base computer is connected with a LAN line and the laptop i am using the dongle that came with the router , i really don't now what other information you require please help

What do you mean by "dongle"?  How is it labelled and what does it look like?

What do you mean by "locks me out"?  Does the laptop completely stop responding?

Again sorry about the confusion
It doesn't lock me out it just will not let me in
I have tried the suggestions switching off router etc No joy

My modem is an all in one so how can i switch then on and off separately?

Will this help heres my settings
This works perfectly well on my base computer ,but i have to disable it so i can access the internet on the laptop
