I am searching for the ULTIMATE GAMERS notebook. What is the difference in these two processors?
Games to be played mostly is of course the ultimate!!!! WoW *grinz*
AMDTurion64x2TL-56 and Ntelcore core2 duo processor T5500??
Also, what notebook do you prefer for gaming? I have approx. $3000.00 to spend.

Did I mention that I am a newb??? My geekdom rests in your hands!!

As for your question . . . the Core 2 is the better processor, but the CPU isn't the most important component for gaming, the GPU is.
What games do you play? Just WoW or others too?
How many fps do you really want/need?
What other things do you want to do with it?
Screen size needed?
Battery life needed?
Other features?
Why a notebook?
$3000 will buy you a great gaming notebook, but you could get the best ever gaming desktop for that money - do you need a notebook?
For us to advise you properly, we need a more specific post about what exactly you want.

Some people don't like Alienware though, they either say they're way overpriced, which they are, or they don't like the styling.
Personally I wouldn't have one, I'd prefer one that's less flashy and therefore less likely to get stolen.
Each to their own though, and Alienware are powerful, as are most of the boutique gaming notebook manufacturers' products.

I am looking at Sager as well as Alienware....Sager is what my boyfriend has and loves it, while it is not a boutique computer he tells me that the speed is important that is why I asked about the cpu...

I need a notebook for work as well as gaming. I prefer to sit on my couch to game *quite frankly* as it seems less like work and more like leisure to me. *honestly*

I am just starting the online gaming world and want the best for the money and one that will allow me to keep up as best as I can with the ever changing tech world.

If you want it on your lap you'll want one that doesn't put out too much heat and one that's not too heavy, which may limit you you to a smaller and less powerful notebook.
What screen size do you want?
How light does it need to be?
Battery life?
What other features do you want?
What will it be used for, other than gaming?
How long do you want to keep the notebook for?

I don't know about battery life *the newb thing again, sorry* but I want at least 19 inch screen, I will have a laptop desk soweight and the heat is not too too much an issue other then protecting the puter.
Memory is key to me I plan to have the computer as long as possible without falling behind in the tech race. I always tend to want the new gadgets out there. Price is not really an issue here.
I need one that can do the basics as far as other then gaming, you know, documents, excel, surfing, blogging...etc..

You'll struggle to find a 19" screen on a notebook.
They are available, but very uncommon and expensive. I've even seen a 20.1" screen. However, larger than 17" isn't really feasible or easy to find.
Mainstream is 15" or 15.4" widescreen, gaming tends to be 17" widescreen.
If you're going to use it plugged in, battery life isn't an issue for you.
A gaming laptop's battery will be short anyway because of the powerful components.
By memory, do you mean RAM or HDD space?
RAM is fast temporary storage - more of it improves the PC's ability to multitask, helps games load faster and play more smoothly, and soon.
HDD space is storage, where programs and games are installed to, and where you store documents.
An 80Gb disk is standard, they now go up to 160Gb.
Look for a 7200rpm disk rather than a slower 5400rpm or 4200rpm, as games will load faster and the laptop will boot much quicker. Overall performance will also be better.

I will play WoW, and uh...poker...*giggles* and as far as others...I am open to suggestions. Just about everybody I know is on Wow, so I thought it would be a good place to start. Are there other good ones I should consider? How about a beginners game on DnD? Is there one online?

The Sager does offer a 20 inch as well as certain Alienware models.... I want fast loading and speed for multi tasking..and HEY can't a girl have both??

I am afraid I have too much zeal and little knowledge on the terminologies for computers...I am getting "info" hooked though and want to do homework on it and learn as much as I can in this field...it is facinating what this site has to say. I fear I may annoy everyone with my questions.

But you see my point about giant laptops.
Anything above 17" is, I think, too much.
My regret on my laptop is that I wish I'd waited a month more.
However, it is said that if you wait once to buy hardware, you'll wait forever - the next big advance is always just round the corner.
TBH I wanted a desktop but for some reason I wasn't allowed one.
If I'd got a desktop I'd be much more pleased with it, but never mind.

WoW doesn't need much power, but you'll probably want a good graphics card to play newer games when they are released, plus get the best graphics today.
I don't play any RPG-type games so I can't advise on that. My gaming tends to be RTS, mainly FPS.
In your zeal and (your words, not mine) little knowledge, you are similar to how I was when I was looking for mine.
I found some good PC magazines and subscribed, which taught me a lot.
If I'd have known about this forum I'd've been here long ago, the people here know so much.
It's nice to want to learn about things, I can point you to some good sites for whatever you need to know.
And don't worry, you won't annoy anyone with your questions, as long as they are legal . . . lol.

OH..ok...well, on computer gaming...I know that graphics is a major factor so I will make sure that is top notch.
What about gaming mouses? What is the difference from a regular lazer mouse? Do I NEED a gaming mouse?

Graphics is a major factor - in fact, according to some, the only thing that matters is the GPU.
Hehe.
Anyway, it's the most important factor for gaming, but not the only one to consider.
Gaming mice . . . the only real difference is in the name.
Some are more sensitive than normal mice.
In practice, there's not much difference.
I use a cheap budget mouse for gaming, and it's fine for me.
A laser mouse uses laser technology, and is more accurate then an optical mouse. It will also work on more surfaces.

I wouldn't figure a gaming mouse to be a major factor if it was me, I'd just go on the best for the price, most comfortable, etc.

Versions of Vista
For most people, XP Home and Vista Premium is what they want.
However, I prefer XP Pro because of a few features I find useful.
XP Media Centre is good if you want to use TV tuners etc, but it offers nothing that, say, XP Home with a few add-ons can't do.
As for Vista, I'm not that interested as I don't plan on upgrading any time soon,so I can't say what the advantages and disadvantages are.
As a rule, a Vista upgrade voucher will get you the version of Vista equivalent to the version of XP it's for - for example, XP Pro to Vista Business.
