Norton Antivirus 2005
« on: October 09, 2004, 07:11:29 PM »
Running Windows 98 on a Dell Dimension desktop with Pentium III at approx 425 mHz.  System is well beyond minimum requirements for software.  Problem 1 is that, having installed the software from a CD, it is eight(!) minutes from clicking on the desktop shortcut until the first screen appears.  That screen is always to activate the software.  Problem 2 is that I have successfully activated multiple times by phone but the next step is the "information wizard" for configuration.  The wizard runs for a couple of minutes and then stops responding.  Problem 3 is because of the failed configuration, I assume, the activation is negated.  I am constantly reminded to activate.  I have downloaded the SymKBfix.exe as suggested by the Symantec website to no avail.  I have waited on hold for at least 20 mins. multiple times but it seems no one wants to talk to me!  They are either seriously understaffed or have so many problems with their software that it shouldn't even be on the market yet!!!

dwhcpa.......Several things come to mind ......First did you have any earlier versions of Norton installed when you installed Norton 2005?
Did NAV 2005 successfully complete the pre load scan ?
Then you said you activated by telephone several times ......odd.....usually Norton goes online verifies your product code and then given your code is valid activates ......So I would ask you if you purchased the program or downloaded it ? Then you said you that you were on hold 20 minutes , multiple times but no one wanted to talk to you....If this was the case how did you manage to activate it as you would have spoken to a person to activate.

I had already uninstalled NAV 2001 because it was obsolete and needed to be replaced.  I first tried a downloaded of version 2005 but experienced the same problems as with the CD that I subsequently purchased from a retail store.  When I tried to activate online (as recommended), the Symantec server would begin "gathering information" but then the connection would fail.  Phone activation is NOT done by talking to a person but rather via an automated response system.

Yes, the pre-install virus scan ran successfully with nothing found.  I have even run a full scan of my computer through the Symantec website.  No infected files were found.

As nav is a resource hogger i would take back to the shop and ask for a refund say that it not fit for my pc..<win98>then i would look for  a free anti-virus program and uninstall norton...
