Computer boots but nothing appears on screen...?
« on: March 01, 2007, 06:23:30 PM »
Hi, I just built up my new computer and transfered my SATA hard drive over and tried to boot up my computer. However, even though the computer boots up and all the fans on the motherboard and videocard turn on the monitor does not turn on. Also the cpu "busy" light turns on but is a solid light, no blinking. I know its not the video card because I tried it in my brothers comp in it worked perfectly and everything in my computer is brand new from Newegg. Any suggestions?  :-?

My system specs are as follows:
2x AMD FX-70 2.6 ghz processors
Asus L1N64-SLI WS motherboard
2 gigs of ram DDR2 800 240 pin
Geforce 8800 GTS 320 MB
320 Gig Seagate SATA 3.0/Gbps 7200 RPM
550 watt power supply (I ordered a 750 watt under suspicion that it may be the problem)

Did you test the motherboard before you installed it?

It is not uncommon to have the motherboard short out
in the case using the wrong size screws,or not using
motherboard standoffs properly.

The motherboard seem operational, Im fairly sure I installed it correctly too because I've done this multiple times in the past. Also theres an LED light on the board that turns on when it has power going through it.

James ..... I just have to ask, the hard drive which you installed is from another machine , is that correct ?
Does it contain an o/s and all the system info for the machine it came out of ?

      Let us know.

If you don't know the answer, it isn't a dumb question.

Nevermind I figured it out, turns out the4 pin connector on the motherboard can be turned into an 8 pin connector which fixed the problem. Computer boots up fine now :)
