Need help with bandwidth
« on: March 12, 2007, 11:49:37 PM »
I'm not really sure if the subject was right, but this is the scenario.

I have a router and my bandwidth has been recently slow lately, and i first called service

provider to find out whats going on. They told me that somebody's usin p2p thats

bottlenecking my connection. I found out that the culprit was my adopted brother and i told

to stop it, but because he spends 24/7 watching korean dramas and citcoms, he won't

stop, not only that, he's stupid enough to run two p2p programs, edonkey and limewire or even more, He's an idiot.

So is there a way to use my router to limit his connection only? so that the other

computers in the familiy can have a decent connection.

This is how serious it is, I ping google, and get 15-20s with his connection turned off.
With his connection turnned on i get like 800s

So is there a way that i can limit his connection?

What router do you use? If it is a cheap one... I don't think you have any chance to limit his throughput. But you can search for QoS or prioritization in the router menu.

Just block the P2P ports on your router.  Problem solved.
Only able to visit the forums sporadically, sorry.
