i have a dabs value 30gb hdd mp3 player, i belive that i have unwittingly deleted the file structure on the player and it displays the above message before defaulting to the usb screen. in device manager on my xp computer the usual yellow exclamation mark and the information "this device cannot start code 10".is there a way to revive the player or alternatively to use the drive just for storage (fujitsu MHT2030AT)

Right click My Computer and select Manage...
Then choose Disk Management. Find the offending drive and right click it and see if XP will allow you to format it from there...if so you should be good to go.

If not report back with the drives properties as listed above...there may be another way.

Have you tried it in another USB port and or on another machine ? ?

If you want to experiment you could DLoad and try a HDD manuf. utility just to see if it is recognised. Try Data Lifeguard tools from Western Digital. These can format it as well...

many thanks patio.......tried it in a different usb port........was recognised...could format but decided to try an save it as an mp3 player.....there were just 2 files on it, couple of songs so made new folder called mp3, put them in it and after trying a few button combinations on the player it plays them. hope this may help some other numpties out there  :-[
