Now all I want to do on theese computers is to play games and have my internet, I was wondering if I needed to re-install my internet or is it on the cds alerady? Also to reformat all I need to do in msdos is to type Format c:  to reformat all my computer correct?

There's no such OS as Windows ME 2000.

Why, exactly, do you want to reformat your hard drives?  MDG is a brand, right?

LOL.  Well, that question should have been asked BEFORE starting procedure.  ::) If it was the wrong thing to do, it would be too late now to reverse it.  Fortunately, you're on the right track.  Let it finish.  Then, let us know if you're having problems.

Well, I gather that CD you're using is the Restore CD that came with that computer.  So, you should accompish exactly what you want.  When the restore is completed, look in Device Manager for any exclamation marks inside yellow triangles; that indicates a problem.

It sounds like you just reinstalled Windows over the old installation and did not format your hard drive.  Put the CD in the CD-Drive again and restart your computer; in other words, boot from the CD.  What exactly do you see on screen?  What are your options?  I believe you by-passed the formatting step during your first attempt.

Come on, now.  This is quite elementary.  How long have you been using Windows?  And, you don't know the different versions?

Windows 3.1
Windows 95
Windows 98
Windows 98SE (second edition)
Windows ME
Windows 2000
Windows XP
Windows Media Center Edition
Windows Vista

Again, no such OS as Windows ME 2000

You may need to access your BIOS and set CD-ROM as the initial/first boot device.  How to access/enter Motherboard BIOS

I'm going to be signing off for the night.  I'll check back in the morning.  In the mean time, can you tell us exactly the brand AND model of that computer?

I found out how to boot from the CD and re-installed ME from there but I still have my old files and folders everything... it dint do anything maybe I should try to delete everything then restart my computer with the CD inside so it re-installs it when it starts?

Make sure you "Delete The Partition" this time when you restore.

Im guessing if I just Format c: in MS-DOS and re-install Windows ME it should all be fine and I dont have to delete the other Partitions is that right?

Also this is the computer iv been trying to format if its any help:
Computer:

AuthenticAMD
AMD Athlon(tn) Processor
256.0MB RAM

System:

Microsoft Windows ME
4.90.3000

Karma on ur way :)

Again, when you boot up with the Win ME CD in your CD drive, does a screen appear where you can choose what to do among several options?

If it truly is not giving you the option of reformatting your hard drive, I suggest creating a Windows Me startup disk, booting from it, and then reformatting your hard drive.  Then, use the CD to reinstall Windows.

ok, I think I deleted my other "Partition" ...this is what I did I went in add/remove programs and uninstalled Windows ME, now its not there anymore so im guessing thats what it was the "Partition"?

now when I try to make a "Startup Disk" I get this error:

The file 'aspi2dos.sys'  and some other files was "not found".

it dint use to give me this error of not finding the files befor I uninstalled ME.

This is the error it used to give me befor:

Setup cannot properly initializa the disk that you inserted. (I tried other floppys)
Error: The device was not ready.
Click OK to continue.

It would get to 20% then give me this error

Also when I boot from my ME CD all it does is start installing Windows ME it doesnt ask anything about reformating or deleting anything.

Let's try this.  Go to Start, Programs, MS-DOS Prompt.  [I'm looking at Win 98SE here, so I'm sure MS-DOS Prompt is the same place on the Programs menu in Win ME.]  When the MS-DOS Prompt panel opens, type format C: and hit Enter.

Windows will not format C: while Windows is running...

DLoad and create an ME bootdisk from Bootdisk.com.

Put it in the floppy drive and re-boot.

At the A: prompt type in format C: /u and hit Enter.

Ok I just finished Dloading the bootdisk but when I try to reboot with the floppy inside it dint do anything, do I have to re-boot with (A:) instead of the CD-ROM 1st?

If I understand this it should bring me to MS-DOS if I reboot with (A:) instead then I format c: /u from there is this correct?

thanks.

No ...you need to double click the file you dloaded with a fresh floppy in the drive.

And yes...the second part is correct.

format c: /s, not format c: /u, right?

Not a bad idea...i would use both switches :

format C: /u; /s and hit enter. But since it is a clean install he may not need the system files neccessarily.

Finally, mission accomplished.   :)  By the way, if you plan to reformat the Win XP machine, as you mentioned in your first post, that works different.  Just a heads up before you start on that.
