    (Solved) Unremovable file !
    « on: May 03, 2007, 09:36:58 AM »
I have got a used external hard drive. (Iomega DHD 120-C)
And I tried to format the drive.
There were a few maps who were unremovable but I've changed the security settings to deny everything an allow me everything.
All the files were removed but one file still couldn't be removed.
I've tried Killbox, rebooting in safe mode and than formatting the drive,"DEL /F /Q" ,...
The folder name is "445f4c77a8d20ba8013255ba6a" the subfolder is called update I don't have the permission to view the security settings of that folder.(Can't access the folder)
And the security settings were set to fully allow user "S-1-5-21-1590031722-3510825943-2600160639-1006" Witch my computer doesn't recognize as a user and that user isn't mentioned in my firewall.
The only-thing I can think of is that the folder is an update for the driver of the drive.
But than normally that-one should at least be hidden.

    Thanks in advance

    Jonas
Does anyone has an other idea how I can remove that file.
Or if someone knows for sure its the driver than I will keep the file

I think it's just one of those hidden system folders that harbour the recycle bin and some volume information.

The thing is that it isn't hidden and I can't open the subfolder.

Well, unless you enabled 'show hidden system folders' I'd do a virus scan to make sure it's nothing harmful.

I've tried that to but forgot to mention it.
After all it would be a little clumsy of the creator of the virus if he did not even hide his map.

I've noticed an other problem: I can't defragment that disk because I don't have full permissoin of that file.

FDisk and Format from a bootdisk.

Although i've never seen a file that Killbox didn't like to kill...there's a first time for everything.

Killbox can't kill Vundo files.  In my experience, they trick it into thinking they're vital system files.  I can't think of the names at the moment (maybe PurityScan?), but there are other infections that do similar things.

Yes but it isn't a virus I have had a lot of virus and antispyware tools and I know that OneCare is the best.
However I tried PurityScan but I found nothing.

              Thanks for trying
I'm still wondering if there is a way.  :-\

Sorry, didn't mean to suggest that it might be a virus.  I was just trying to tell patio that it's not uncommon for Killbox to not delete files.

What's the make and model of your external drive?  Have you visited the manufacturer's site?  Perhaps this is just a normal file that's supposed to be there.

I already went to the site and found nothing about such files.

Right, I see the info now.  I must be more tired than I thought.  Heh.

You could try the support forum.  It's not the most active, but it might worth a shot.

I've posted the same message as I posted here.
I don't think it a file who supposed to be there.
(otherwise I would be able to use defrag -f)
You-gays are far more specialised then they are.( I think.)
Sow I you still have suggestions there welcome.
I want to defeat that file I don't want to give up on it so quickly
