Free file hosting
« on: May 08, 2007, 06:48:31 PM »
Now I am looking for free file hosting, like Imageshack, but something able to hold up to a few hundred megabytes for public access and no registration.

Know of any?

Thanks  :)

No registration?  Sites like that exist (Files Upload for example), but your uploads will be deleted after a few days.  If you want to keep them, you'll need to register somewhere.

    http://www.megaupload.com
I've already posted files of 400mb on this site.
You can download the toolbar of it.
If you are planning to upload big file I would download the toolbar.
than the upload speed is multiplied by 10.

To clarify, the 25mb MAX is the maximum size for one file.  Apparently, it is not the limit on the total amount of data that can be uploaded, but I did not see that limit stated on the site.  Also important to note that files drop off it not accessed within 14 days.

Here's another option, but, like most such services, it requires registration: http://zdrive.wn.com/  Free 5 GB storage!

Since you mentioned Imageshack, is your primary interest storage for images/photos?

Here's another option, but, like most such services, it requires registration: http://zdrive.wn.com/  Free 5 GB storage!

Have you used this one?      any comments, positive or negative, about it?

I had a quick look, but didn't see anything about time limits.   Would you know...  is there any kind of time limit/lack of access/whatever such that your files are deleted?

No, I haven't used it.  I remember hearing about it somewhere and  just thought I'd mention it here.   I find no mention of a time limit on their site, so I would presume there is no time limit.  However, they have support contact info @ http://zdrive.wn.com/help.php.  I just sent an email asking about time limits.  I'll post the response from them, assuming I get one.

I found the following info from Megaupload regarding their time limits:

Their FAQ page has a lot of good info, including:

"How long does Megaupload store my files?

Your files will be stored forever as long as you are a premium member. If you are a registered user without premium status, your files will be stored until at least 90 days after their last download (you can manually restart that expiration period at any time in the file manager). A file that was uploaded anonymously (that is not owned by any Megaupload user) will be deleted no sooner than 21 days after the last time it was downloaded."

Edit: editing changes made at 1:55 p.m. EST to correct inaccuracies in original content of this post.

Sorry, the original wording of my previous post was not confusing.  I just edited it.
