    « on: June 24, 2007, 04:24:11 AM »
Ok i have a modem, a laptop, and a desktop. The desktop is connected to the modem by usb. The laptop is connected to the modem by Ethernet. The laptop and desktop both access the internet fine. Is there anyway to transfer files from the desktop to the laptop like this?  Sorry if i didnt explain correctly. Please reply quickly. Thanks

A wired or wireless router would be an excellent idea. If you go wired (like it sounds you are comfortable with), an inexpensive, or even used 802.11b would be more than adequate.

Your most basic networking for a home will be a Workgroup.
Just as a precaution: You should have a fully funtioning Antivirus protection running on all computers when networked, since it makes it easier for viruses to spread. (Avast and AVG are great scanners)

the advantages  of a home network, is that you can have wired or wireless. Wireless can be good so you can take your laptop or desktop computer somewhere different in the house, and you don't need cables. Both networking solutions allow you to share files between computers and also share the internet. I am gathering you are on a broadband network connection.
