Why don't you just take your laptop to a repair shop? You're going to eventually, you could save some time.

    Do you know how much it cost i around here I have to pay 75euro that's about $80 for each hour. Sow I think that spending my time would be a better idea. besides I learn along with it.(You don't have to help me if you don't want to its completely your decision.)

    Well, my prediction is that you have a hardware problem. maybe a loose IDE cable, maybe a hard drive defect, maybe a motherboard fault. All the tinkering with settings in the world will not fix those things.

      That's the trouble with laptops, they are so hard to fix, that's why I would never have one just to replace a desktop computer.

        I guess your right about the cable I'm getting more and more problems how look like a default of the cable.
        Is there any program witch can test the cable?
        I'm afraid if it is the cable that I'll have to buy an other laptop because it is attached to the motherboard isn't it?

          Can it be an other problem that costs much more?
          Because I'm thinking of buying a new laptop.
          Because he is already 5 years old.
          And I don't want to spend to much money on the one I have now.
          And it would cost me 75euro just to check what is wrong.

          Spend 75 € on a 5 year old laptop which is known to be unhealthy... bad idea... if you have the money... get a new one!

            That was the conclusion I had sow as long as this computer can hold (that won't be for long I guess) I will wait to buy a new one.
            Can you give me some advice for a new laptop?
            I'll start a new topic for that.

              I took a look at my old Tecra 8100 and it had the same hardrive only smaller capacety.
              I've noticed that the cable hwo is attached to the harddrive is directly connected to the motherboard.
              Sow I done with this computer.
              I had hoped I could solve this myself but he.
