reinstalling vista

I changed motherboards from a GIGABYTE 965P-S3 to a ECS NFG650iSLIT-A.  Before I changed the boards I had vista already installed.  After I changed to the new board I turned it on and a message said I needed to repair windows.  So I put the dvd in and told the board the boot from the dvd.  I tried the repair thing and it didn't find anything to fix.  I tried the system restore back to the earliest date, but that didn't do anything.  I ran the memory test.  I didn't have any memory errors.  What should I do now?  Should I just try to install Vista like I did the first time?

I think you skipped a few things in your description

When you change a device, and Windows cant start (in Windows Vista), Vista will attempt to fix it for you.

Once you have done that, go ahead and start Windows normally.

If it wont start, you have a major compatibility issue.
Windows Vista may need to be reinstalled, or a repair instalation is in order.
