IE vs Firefox; which is better in XP?
    « on: July 15, 2007, 04:41:26 PM »
I've been using Internet Explorer for years, but just got Firefox via a Google download and began wondering if it's better.  Let's hear why you like one or the other.

I was a regular user of IE until about six months ago.  Then, I started using Firefox.  The feature I most like about Firefox is the way it's tabbed browsing works.  IE 7 has tabs, but it doesn't work like Firefox.

I was also a regular IE user. Four months ago I found Firefox and I found the tabs very useful so I switched.
After a few weeks using Firefox, I started trying out Add-Ons and Themes and the Bookmarks. Now I love this browser  ;D.

I think IE7 looks very ugly. My opinion.

Few years ago, I found Firefox, coming from AOL 9.
    Never looked back.
Personally, I find that Firefox, compared to IE6 or IE7, is faster to start, to load web pages, and even to download files.
It's also more customizable for the advanced user or the beginner, and arguably more secure.
The main things I like are tabbed browsing, which I vastly prefer to IE7's implementation, and the add-ons and themes.
If you're not sure, just give it a try.  It's free and it won't hurt to just try it out for a few days, then you can see which you like better.

Sounds like 100% for Firefox, at least so far.  Anybody out there like IE better?

Personally, I prefer Firefox. Been using it for a good couple years now I think.

Although I've read some pages on the internet that shows that IE7 is better in some aspects. For example, IE7 uses less memory than Firefox (source)

Opera seems to beat both browsers though.

There's a bunch more stuff here, should check it out. I've briefly used Opera, but I just can't bring myself to move away from Firefox.

Everything still sounds pretty good for Firefox, though a few think IE is better in some respects.  I'm just trying Firefox and finding it to be faster than IE, but Google seems to have taken it over at the outset.  I can ignore Google, but I don't know how to get rid of it on starting Firefox.  Any help there?

Personally, I like IE7, but maybe I'll give Firefox a second chance. ;)

This is another positive vote for Firefox.

After you use it for a day or so,   come back here and ask everybody what their favorite extensions and/or modifications are, and why.
You'll get lots of input, and probably learn of a few extensions and/or modifications that sound interesting to you.
            Then go try them out.

Can you describe the Google thing more?    With more detail,  somebody here will probably be able to guide you.

In FireFox Tools/Options/Main Home Page...there you can set your Start Page to anything you want.
I believe the folks at Mozilla entered into a google agreement to gain popularity...but it like everything else in Firefox can be changed/customised.

I just don't see IE7 even comparing. Firefox is very simple and you can make it have as much as you want, but I like it so simple. It's very secure and easy use. I just believe its a great browser. Simplicity is best. The tabs are nice too.

I have enough to cover 10000 Firefox installations, hah.
The great thing is, just like Firefox, you can try out an extension, modification or theme, and easily undo it if you don;t like it.
