will not record sound from mic
« on: July 29, 2007, 10:54:41 PM »
I want to record my children onto my computer so I can burn it to disk, but I am having trouble.  I use image mixer, insert my mic, and start recording, but it doesn't register anything.  Am I maybe missing some special hardware?

Yes.  Actually my computer isn't recognizing my mic at all.  I tried updating my drivers for my sound card (ac'97?)  now I have no sound.  This sucks : (

Try unmuting the mic in the sound mixer.

Double click sound icon in tray
In new window that appears , click Options , then Properties
Select Recording
Select Microphone
Click Ok

Microphone is now displayed in audio control panel
Select it by placing a tick in box
Slide its slider to about 3/4's up ... not all the way
In that advanced button option hides "boost" ... do use it , unless you need to
Close audio control panel by hitting the X box in upper right corner

Mic should be connected to PINK connector on audio socket on pc .

Should that fail , suspect bad mic .

----

Please refer to motherboard manual setup .

Some motherboards , if not all modern units , have a connector on the motherboard for connecting front audio panel connectors prebiult into case ... which can disable those actually fitted on the motherboard .

The motherboard manual will show how these must be set , in order to prevent issues .
