limewire: clean?
« on: December 04, 2004, 07:50:53 PM »
i'm addicted to p2p downloading, but after having to flush my computer to the bone because I downloaded the wrong program, I want to be safe.

Thing is, i got this huge virus because I downloaded it.  I plan on being more careful in the future.

What i'm asking is about spyware and adware.

there are only a few good filesharing programs out there, and the only one i could find that advertised no spyware or adware in the free version is limewire.

so is limewire really clean?  if it isn't, is emule, edonkey, morpheus, or any other good filesharing program clean from spy- or adware?

billiusthemook..I would steer clear of P2P software , sooner or later you will run into trouble.

    Is it safe to download?
Limewire includes 3rd party software like Cydoor to deliver targeted ads to you. They don't specify what software they specifically use in their on site privacy policy. Best is not to download it.  emule....I think its used by a lot ......but one can't be too careful these days .

    Hope this helps you

If you don't know the answer, it isn't a dumb question.

      I use Ares

      http://www.aresgalaxy.org/

I've not had a single problem.

      For viruses, I suggest AVG

      http://www.grisoft.com

For spyware, I use Pestpatrol. Might not be the best one there is, but it works fine for me. Most of the time you can avoid spyware by just surfing safely and sensibly.

      Just say NO to popups.

I've gone the .torrent route using Azureus as the client.  A friend says he really likes soulseek but I haven't used it.

Have a look at Shareaza, no spyware, no adware.
