    Problem with my Modem

    Hello guys,

    I have a Dell pc windows XP..my problem is that my modem conection is gone..
    I did ckdsk /r did not do anything i reinstalled the drivers to the modem from the Dell
    drivers cd still nothing changes if I go to Start..setting..control panel..and them
    try to open phone and modem it would not open...any ideas  ???

    When did this start?

    Any recent hardware or software changes?

    Open Control Panel/System/Hardware Tab/Device Manager button...

    Do you see any yellow exclamation points next to any of your hardware?

    Please post back with answers to the above questions...thanks.

      I just found out that a coworker had to reinstalled windows XP to this pc..due to al lockup in the system...but before that the modem was working ok.


      I did what you told me went to the Device manager button and I don't see any yellow
      exclamation..but if  I go to control panel and doble click in the phone and modem icon I
      get this error message....Phone and modem control panel can not be opened. You may have a problem starting telephony service. ???

      1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc in the Open box, and then click OK.
      2. Double-click Telephony.
      3. On the General tab, click Manual in the Startup type box, and then click OK. 
      4. Restart the computer.
