Beep Codes
« on: October 09, 2007, 03:51:34 PM »
My PC has Windows XP installed.  I thoroughly cleaned it after removing all components, re-assembled it got it working, then the power supply went up in a puff of acrid smoke.  I changed it for another suitable one which was working and now all I get is one long beep during POST, I have re-checked everything and I'm stumped - anyone got any suggestions ? ???

    Is your memory seated properly?

Did you apply a new layer of thermal grease when you put the processor back in? (if you removed it)

What kind of motherboard do you have? certain beep code errors can be motherboard-specific.

    Have a read here:

Soometimes when PSU's go out they take other components with them. Listing your specific motherboard or computer make and model can be helpful.
