Old computer, old drive.......
« on: October 09, 2007, 01:31:58 PM »
I have a new computer, but cannot access the old one as there is an issue with the operating system.  I have tried to re-install the O/S, but cannot find the registration code.  A long story--but cannot retrieve it from Microsft website.  What I would like to do is remove the harddrive from the older computer, and just use it as a second harddrive with the new computer.  ( I want to remove some of the files from the old drive, then I don't really care about it anymore).  Can this be done?  How would I connect the old drive to the new computer?  It would appear that I would have to use the ribbon cable as their is no usb port on the old drive.  But I wouldn't mind opening the tower and temporarily using the ribbon cable.  Or should I just take the drive to a specialist and pay him to do it?  Thank to anyone who can help.

Hook up the drive as a slave in a working machine and retrieve your data...
After and including WinXP you can't simply swap a drive from one machine to another...
