Connection Problem
« on: October 30, 2007, 08:31:53 PM »
Hi All

I have Windows XP SP2 running here.
I noticed today while I was browsing the web, I received "IE cannot display this web page".

I waited a few seconds and I could continue browsing, but about 10 minutes later, my DSL connection disconnects again. While I am disconnected the disk activity light on my laptop blinks like h**l.

If I manually set the IP address, that fixes some problems, but later it disconnects, and I have to restart the computer.

Does anyone have a solution to stop my connection from disconnecting?
Thank you.

(I hope to get an answer ASAP because the problem occurred when I was posting this  >:()

What service? Is it wireless or wired?

It is wired direct to the modem.

Another computer uses the modem at the same time, but that isn't causing the problem.

If anyone needs more information I can provide it.
Until then, I'm going to have to put up with this...

If it happened just today, did you try to call your ISP, if they are having any downtimes in your area?

It just happened recently, but if the service was down, it would have being fixed already.

It has being a problem for the last two months.

Besides the fact that it is a problem with my computer (the other computer works fine), my ISP is too lazy to fix the problem.

How are those two computers connected?

They are not networked, but the modem is capable of connecting two computers at the same time.

NAT is Enabled, ZIPB is disabled.

Having trouble downloading files. Look at the picture attached and you will see what I mean.

Did you try to switch CAT5 cables, and switch modem ports at the same time?
    How about TCP Optimizer?

Just remembered, if you are wondering why that Window looks like Vista, I actually have the Vista theme, but I have XP.

I don't know what you mean.
I assume your modem has two ports, or you're using some splitter?
Use cable from computer #2 for computer #1, and vice versa.
If your modem has two ports, plug your computer #1 to port #2, and computer #2 to port #1.

As for TCP Optimizer, can't you download it through computer #2?

I just remembered I had Firefox installed. I managed to download on this computer, so that problem is fixed.

How are you doing with your computer housecleaning? Temps, registry, etc.
How are your security issues? Did you scan lately for spywares, and other crap?

I've recently done a little housecleaning, registry, page file (too low before), etc.

I'll check for spyware ASAP. Even though my HJT log is clean (learning how to read HJT logs), I will run a spyware scan.

    Fairly clean...
    Fix these:

    - F3 - REG:win.ini: load=

    - F3 - REG:win.ini: run=

    - O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)

    Do you know this site?
    - O16 - DPF: {7FC1B346-83E6-4774-8D20-1A6B09B0E737} (Windows Live Photo Upload Control) - http://sunnydays07.spaces.live.com/PhotoUpload/MsnPUpld.cab
If not, fix it, as well.

Run HJT again, and see if those entries are gone.
