    Problem with Java 5
    « on: November 30, 2007, 03:33:49 PM »
    Hello,
My problem started out with games, now with music, etc.
I thought I had Java 5 installed on my," Windows 98se  IE 6."
I was wrong. I deleted the old versions,
and what I thought I had installed.
I went and downloaded Java 5 again,
but when the box came up to install, I clicked on it and this came up:

Installed:Wrapper.CreateFile failed with error 32 the process
cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank-You,
    John God

    Did you go here:
    http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp
Hmmm, looks like he needs to go to the Archive Java Technology Products Download to get a product for Win 98SE.  The latest version is only for Windows XP, 2000, 2003 Server.  I navigated to http://www.java.com/en/download/faq/other_jreversions.xml  where older versions can be obtained.

      Thank-You for your help,it worked.
      Went to your site:
      http://www.java.com/en/download/faq/other_jreversions.xml
      My version was:
      jdk-1_5_0_13-windows-i586-p.exe
      Thanks Again,
      John

I do have 1 more problem:
When I try to go into my games on 98se,
      Freecell/Hearts/Solitaire/ or Minesweeper,
there is a white window with the window icon in it.
When I click on any one, I get:
      The object that c:\windows\desktop\freecell.Ink
refers to has been removed or is inacessible.
Any idear how to get them back?
      Thanks,
      John God

It looks like your shortcut is corrupted.
I don't remember, where Freecell is located on Win 98, but search your computer for "freecell.exe", and make a new shortcut to that file.

        I couldn't find it either,but this is what I tried,to no luck.
Went to Add / Remove unchecked games and rebooted,
tried to reinstall, rechecked games and a box came up to
insert Windows 98se disk. I did that and this came up:
The file "cards.dll" on Windows 98se cannot be found.
Setup couldn't find a file on the specified path.
        E:\autorun\windows
        Error Details:
Setup couldnot finish opening a file on the source disk.
Don't know anything about this or how to get the missing file.

        This is pretty strange directory.
Open Windows Explorer, and search your Windows CD for "cards.dll" file.

Is it full version Windows 98 CD, or an Upgrade?

Its a full version Windows 98se CD.
Sorry, I relooked and found it.
            It was in Win98_61.cab.
I saved it to C:. Not sure what to do next.
I clicked on it and this came up.
            OPEN WITH:
Click the program you want to use to open the file cards.dll.
If the program you want is not in the list, click other.
Not sure what program to use.

            Put it in:
            C:\Windows\System directory
and try to uncheck games in Add\Remove, exit Add\Remove.
            Enter Add\Remove, check games.

              Its done, all fixed.
I went into File Checker to extract the files.
When I put the cd-rom in, I had to type, E:\win98.
              It wasn't in the path.
I want to thank you for all your help.
